We would like
to offer the following information about our products and services:
Location of The
Elephant Sanctuary:
Nestled in the
Magaliesberg Mountains, 45 minutes from Johannesburg and Pretoria,
4 km from the Hartbeespoort Dam. Malaria-free area. The Sanctuary
lies in natural indigenous bush and is home to local species such
as impala, klipspringer, baboons, porcupine, caracal, leopard, and
a host of other small mammals and 350 bird species.
What The Elephant
Sanctuary is about:
The Elephant Sanctuary
offers an exciting, fully-comprehensive elephant experience. We offer
an exclusive, ‘hands-on’, educationally-oriented experience with six
African Elephants: Mosadi, Maroela, Khumba, Thandi, Jabu and of course
the baby, Themba.


OPTIONS:
1) 7 am Early
Morning Elephant Programme (2 hours 45 minutes)
This is wake-up
time for the elephants and they are taken out of their stables at this
time. It is a cool time of the day and guests will take part in the
brushing down of the elephants with the elephant handlers. Guests will
then do an elephant introduction with their guide and get to know about
each elephant and of course elephants in general. Guests will walk with
the elephants into the bush and observe them free feeding. 10 minute
walk up to mountain viewing deck. Return to elephant boma for elephant
feeding. Tea, coffee and scones/muffins. Remember flat walking shoes
and cameras.
Arrival Time: Gate
opens at 06h45 only, programme will start promptly at 07H00
Departure Time:
09H45.
2) 7 am Early
Morning Elephant-Back Riding Programme (2 hours 45 minutes)
This is wake-up
time for the elephants and they are taken out of their stables at this
time. It is a cool time of the day and guests will take part in the
brushing down of the elephants with the elephant handlers. Guests will
then do an elephant introduction with their guide and get to know about
each elephant and of course elephants in general. Guests will ride on
the back of the elephants with the elephant handler into the bush. The
elephant handler will share interesting insights into his elephant.
Observe elephants free feeding. 10 minute walk up to mountain viewing
deck. Return to elephant boma for elephant feeding. Tea, coffee and
scones/muffins. Remember to bring your camera.
Elephant-back
ride:
The elephant ride
is not a game-viewing experience, it is for enhancing your elephant
experience and providing further insight into elephant management. Ride
duration: 20 minutes. Ride through indigenous bush at the base of the
Magaliesberg Mountains. Clothing requirement: Closed flat walking shoes,
jeans or long trousers.

3) 10 am Morning
Elephant Programme with Lunch (4 hours)
Guests are guided
in small groups on foot through the sanctuary. Guides will provide in-depth
information and insight into African elephants. You will be introduced
to our elephants in the forest and here you will be able to touch and
interact with our elephant. You will see the special relationship that
the elephant handlers share with their elephants and become a part of
it. Short nature walk to beautiful mountain deck view point. See the
elephant stables. Feed the elephants. On some hot days you may even
see the elephants swimming. Have lunch on the main deck overlooking
the elephants. Remember to wear flat walking shoes, sun hats and bring
your camera.

it. Short nature walk to beautiful mountain deck viewing point. See
the elephant stables. Feed the elephants. On some hot days you may even
see the elephants swimming. Remember to wear flat walking shoes, sun
hats and bring your camera. Watch the elephants going to bed, sundowner
drinks on the mountain deck, return to lodge for four course dinner
around fire in boma, see the elephants lying down and sleeping. Clothing
consideration: Bring a light jacket in case it's cool at night.

Weather:
Due to the outdoor
nature of the elephant experience, The Elephant Sanctuary cannot be
held responsible for bad weather. We do conduct our programmes irrespective
and it is our experience that the guests enjoy the programme regardless
of the weather.

The Overnight experience includes:
Join us for an intimate
overnight stay in our ten-bedded Indo-African lodge. Your room shares
a common wall with one of our elephant's stables - you will be amazed
how quiet they actually are!

the two rooms (each has an interleading door). Bathroom comprises a
ball-and-claw bath, shower, basin and toilet. The suite comprises four

Thandi Honeymoon
Suite:
A queen bed with
an exquisite open-plan bathroom complete with ball-and-claw bath, shower,
basin and toilet. Mini bar and tea/coffee station. Very romatic.
Jabu Thatch Luxury
Suite:
A very spacious
suite comprising two double beds next to one another and a three quarter
bed separate in the room. En- suite bathroom, comprising toilet, double
basins, shower with bath combination. Mini bar and tea/coffee station.
